Floor Deck Tile

Repair or replace tile on outside deck....?
We have an upstairs covered deck that has a tile floor. I believe our builder used a tile that was not appropriate for outside use because the tile is literally flaking apart. Large, almost circular pieces, up to the size of your palm are just lifting out of the floor. Every time we sweep more and more of the tile is coming up. I am concerned that enough will chip out and that water will eventually get to the layer underneath. I'm not sure what to do. Should I call a contractor to replace the tile, can I remove the tile myself (I'm not extremely handy but can get the job done with the right directions).
Thanks,
I think Steve K, had it right, but I would also suggest, although laying tiles, is more in need or a skill, plus the grouting, removing the old tiles, is a job, requiring less skills. Just a hammer, chisel, and some hard work. And as it's upstairs, lots of trips up and down, to dump the old broken tiles.
But you could set up, some pulley and bucket to lower them down. Depending on the size of your deck.
At least, you will save the cost of the labor to remove them and only have to pay, for the new tiles and grouting with a contractor.
You may want to check out other options, other than tiles, to cover the deck floor.
