Mosaic Glass Stone
if a diamond appears to have been cut very badly, is it likely fake?
i just got engaged and i'm wondering if maybe my guy (who doesn't know a lot about diamonds) got screwed on this deal. i know he wouldn't try to give me a fake ring, but it's possible that the seller lied to him.
the stones in the ring are very small, so i know that would generally indicate real diamonds. what i find odd is how incredibly badly the side stones are cut. they are not a uniform shape at all. none of them are actually squares or rectangles, the sides are different sizes and different angles. they resemble a mosaic of glass shards more than a row of diamonds. are diamonds ever cut in such a messy way? is this some kind of cut for very small diamonds that i'm not aware of? they're not perfectly clear or white like CZ would be, but they are just such a mess. what's up with that?
It is possible that the stones are diamonds. Baguettes for example, sometimes are cut tapered (thicker at one end than the other) so when they are placed in a ring they can have that mosaic glass look. Not all diamonds or gemstones for that matter are cut perfectly symmetrical, it depends on what type of style ring the stones will be used for. If you take the ring to pretty much any jewelry store, they should have a diamond tester & can test the stones for free for you. Enjoy your ring!
