No PC virus in years.. any point in running antivirus software?
Haven't had a virus issue for years now. Even on XP, and now with win7 which is even more secure, it's even better. I've got a PC connecting through a router with an ad remover, antivirus and firewall (avast pro). However, since my antivirus is pretty much been just sitting there for the last few years doing nothing (at one point I even thought it might be corrupt and non-working so I tested it with the AV test file - works), I was wondering is there any point in running it at all?
When I say no issues, I mean none. Not even a report of a blocked/deleted one. Same thing with my firewall and spybot (which also never finds any problems). And all are, ofc, regularly updated (almost daily) including windows itself.
Frankly I wonder how people get a virus these days in the first place...
Always is better safe than sorry but i'm in the same boat as you - i just plug my boot hdd into another PC and run a scan every few months and never get anything. You could easilly do the same with a live cd
If you're browsing history is pretty regular then it's pretty safe to not run it but u gotta remember every now and then even trusted sites/services get compromised sometimes this is where the AV software can save a big hassle
Either way whether or not you wanna take that risk is up to you but there still is a risk.
